Elara

Name of Jupiter's seventh satellite in order of distance, it was discovered in 1905 by astronomer C. D. Perrine.

It is in orbit at an average distance of the planet of 11,737,000 km., With a period of two hundred and fifty-nine days. It has a radius of just 12 km. Leda, Himalia, Lysithea and Elara could be the remains of a single asteroid that would have been captured by Jupiter and fragmented.

Elara and Zeus were the parents of giant Tityus.
